Review: Love Letter

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

Be the last baron standing. You're in a battle to get your letter to the princess. Through powers of deduction you will identify each other's cards to eliminate your dear friends. If you are lucky enough to make it through the deck, you could win the day and get your love letter to the mistress in waiting.

Squid (11): I liked getting to accuse people of being specific characters. The game helped me with my observations. I think the game should be three players or more because some specific abilities it easily ends the round if only two players. The game with two players is too repetitive and it gets boring.

Spider: I really liked the game. I was surprised because it was already a cheap game that I bought on sale. It was a tiny deck of cards, but within that they hit the perfect balance of observation and strategy. I didn't think it was stressful. I would say that for people that can't handle player elimination, this is not the game because it happens all the time. I loved that the rounds were very quick. This made getting eliminated not a big deal at all. The game is resolved super fast. The longest turn happens because someone might not be paying attention.

I thought this would be an excellent travel game. Easily you could bring this on a plane. You don't even necessarily need the victory tokens. You could just use hash marks on a paper. The foot print of the game is limited, but that's a good thing because it allows the game to be super portable.

Cat: For being such a cheap game, the card quality seemed solid. The instructions were really straightforward. We learned the game in about 3 minutes, so we were able to open and play. The player aid was perfect. You could just refer to that and it made everything super easy. I loved that there was the count of different kinds of cards. That made it great to play with our 11 year old. There wasn't one moment where we needed to check the rules.
